Simplifhy supports companies in setting up hydrogen filling stations

13 Jun 2025

With a view to the decarbonisation of transport, hydrogen is among the clean fuels being looked at with the greatest interest. In this regard, the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRP) has earmarked 230 million euros to develop at least 40 hydrogen refuelling stations by 2026, with the aim of providing the appropriate infrastructure for the spread of this fuel.

The European Commission has also earmarked significant funding for the construction of the necessary infrastructure to foster hydrogen mobility. In addition, logistics operators are looking for fast, scalable and sustainable refuelling solutions.

In this scenario, we at Simplifhy offer ourselves as a single partner, from design to commissioning, for the realisation of hydrogen refuelling stations for urban vehicles and fleets.

Funding and tenders for hydrogen fuelling stations: Simplifhy’s support

At Simplifhy we provide companies with a team of experts specialised in identifying and participating in public tenders for the financing of hydrogen fuelling stations.

Our support includes

  • in-depth analysis of technical and economic requirements
  • preparation of the necessary documentation
  • assistance during the entire application process.·

A concrete example of the effectiveness of this approach is the support provided for the PNRR-funded Hydrogen Valley projects in Italy.

Specifically, we assisted several companies in participating in calls for tenders for the construction of refuelling stations integrated in the broader Hydrogen Valley projects, assisting our clients in defining the technical, economic and regulatory aspects necessary for successful applications.

From planning to commissioning of hydrogen filling stations

Simplifhy is also distinguished by its ability to manage the entire hydrogen fuelling station implementation process, from the preliminary design to the commissioning of the system.

We have developed strategic partnerships with leading filling station manufacturers, ensuring access to the most advanced and reliable technologies available on the market.

In particular, we take care of all design and commissioning details:

  • Detailed design and engineering
  • Procurement of components (electrolysers, chillers, dispensers, storage) through our network of specialised partners
  • Factory and on-site integration and testing
  • Commissioning and training

Hydrogen fuelling stations: references from Simplifhy

We can boast several significant references, such as the basic design and preparation of the technical specifications for what will become Europe’s largest hydrogen fuelling station for buses.

In addition, ongoing projects in Italy include one at the Hydrogen Valley in Acerra (NA), in collaboration with Gastrim, a company appointed as general contractor for the construction of a green hydrogen production, compression and storage plant with photovoltaics. Specifically, for this project we are dealing with the executive design of the plant, including the future refuelling station.

Another relevant example is the SerraHydrogenValle project that we are pursuing in partnership with CPL Concordia, a multi-service cooperative group active in traditional and renewable energy. This project involves the construction of five refuelling stations on motorways in the Milan metropolitan area.

Specifically, we provide final and executive design services, support during construction and as-built documentation, ensuring that each filling station is built to the highest standards of safety, efficiency and reliability.

The multidisciplinary expertise of our team allows us to tackle and solve the many technical and regulatory complexities that characterise these innovative projects.

Hydrogen refuelling stations for urban mobility and light fleets

In the field of urban mobility, we are developing specific solutions for refuelling light vehicles for public transport and last-mile logistics. In fact, we have gained solid experience in designing refuelling systems optimised for the specific needs of urban mobility, which is characterised by frequent refuelling cycles with relatively small quantities of hydrogen.

In particular, we offer targeted technical and economic advice, assessing the specific needs of urban fleets and developing tailor-made solutions that take into account operational, logistical and budgetary constraints.

Our approach includes detailed analysis of vehicle utilisation profiles, evaluation of existing infrastructure and identification of the most appropriate solutions in terms of storage capacity, delivery pressure and refuelling times.

Thanks to the expertise gained from several projects already implemented, we are able to support public transport companies and fleet operators in the transition to hydrogen, contributing to the reduction of emissions in urban contexts.

Compressorless system: innovation for small and medium-scale hydrogen filling stations

One of the most significant innovations in our product portfolio is the Compressorless refuelling system. It is a state-of-the-art solution that eliminates the need for mechanical compressors in the hydrogen dispensing process.

With its streamlined, plug-and-play design, this technology significantly simplifies the architecture of refuelling stations, reducing investment and operating costs.

The Compressorless system uses advanced physical principles to ensure the efficient transfer of hydrogen from storage tanks to vehicles, while maintaining high standards of safety and performance. It is particularly suitable for small and medium-scale applications, such as company fleets or small public service stations.

This solution represents a major step forward in expanding our technology offering and democratising access to hydrogen as an energy carrier for private mobility.

In conclusion, we at Simplifhy provide engineering expertise, field experience and a network of technology partners to accompany every step necessary for the realisation of hydrogen fuelling stations, from the awarding of the tender to the first disbursement.
