On 23rd April Simplifhy participates in the event LOMBARDY ENERGY and CLEANTECH DAY 2024 organised by LE2C in the premises of CNR – Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche in via Alfonso Corti 12, Milan.

The Lombardy Energy Cleantech Cluster (LE2C) is an energy and environment association supporting the growth, innovation and competitiveness of the Lombardy production system. Specifically, LE2C is active in the following sectors

  • renewable and conventional energy
  • electricity transmission and distribution, efficiency
  • energy
  • sustainable construction

  • cleantech technologies

LE2C‘s mission is to promote synergies between the business and research worlds. n fact, the cluster brings together companies, research centres and universities, industrial associations and other public and private entities.

Environmental and energy sustainability at the Lombardy Energy and Cleantech Day 2024

Lombardy Energy and Cleantech Day 2024 is an annual event focusing on environmental and energy sustainability. On the occasion of the Annual Members’ Meeting, the Lombardy Energy Cleantech Cluster organises it with the aim of fostering the transition to a greener future.

Specifically, this year’s event hosts the conference ‘END OF WASTE: Innovation and Sustainable Packaging Management. The new European plastics legislation’. The focus of the conference is sustainable packaging and the recovery of microplastics.

This is a particularly topical and important issue. Indeed, the European Commission has stipulated that by 2030 all packaging must be reusable or recyclable. Today, the packaging sector uses 40% of the plastic and 50% of the paper used in the EU, and packaging accounts for 36% of municipal solid waste.
Therefore, to reach the target identified by the European Commission, it is essential to develop synergetic actions for the growth of the circular economy in these sectors.

The conference brings together experts in the sector, representatives of institutions, industry associations, industry and the world of research. Specifically, participants will discuss the challenges and opportunities related to the new plastics legislation and tools for an efficient management of packaging waste.

Lombardy Energy and Cleantech Day 2024: the conference programme

The conference is introduced and moderated by Carmen Disanto, Cluster Manager of LE2C.
The programme begins with welcome speeches by Riccardo Bellato, President of Lombardy Energy Cleantech Cluster – LE2C and Giorgio Maione, Lombardy Region’s Councillor for the Environment and Climate.

Next, the first speech entitled ‘End of Plastics and the Syschemic project’ is by Lia Voermans, Director Circular Economy – Managing Director Brightlands Circular Space.

This is followed by the round table ‘The new legislation: from plastic waste to End of Waste, issues and opportunities’, with speeches by:

  • Giovanna Landi, Owner Landilex Law Firm

  • Lorenzo Bottinelli, President of PlasticsEurope Italia, CEO of BASF Italia and Member of the President’s Council of Federchimica with responsibility for the Circular Economy
  • Salvatore Iannace, Director of CNR-SCITEC

Moderating the round table is Stefano Consonni, Professor of Energy and Environmental Systems at the Politecnico di Milano and President of LEAP.

Finally, the conclusions are drawn by Giovanni Lozza, Director of the Energy Department of the Politecnico di Milano and Vice-President of LE2C.

Simplifhy CEO Sergio Torriani is contact person for the hydrogen table at Lombardy Energy and Cleantech Day 2024

As board member and contact person for the hydrogen theme of the LE2C 2024 Cluster, our CEO Sergio Torriani reports on what the association has achieved this year to facilitate the development of hydrogen in Lombardy. In particular, three working tables were organised on various hydrogen-related topics.

The three tables have composed a hydrogen production chain that is focusing on the training of new professionals. The aim is to increase the number of professionals available on hydrogen technologies to fill the current skills gap in the sector.

In particular, Michele Petti, Innovation Specialist at Omeco, is coordinating the session devoted to the topic of training for hydrogen specialists. Training represents a fundamental element for all players in the supply chain, on which Italy is leading the way at European level.

Indeed, subjects such as the Milan Polytechnic, the University of Milan and Simplifhy itself (through its collaboration with ITS GREEN) have already acquired important know-how on this subject. Today, these realities are collaborating to create a training ecosystem, which is being presented at H2 Excellence, a European project at the forefront of hydrogen training.
