LEAF Community: Simplifhy supports Loccioni for the Real Laboratory of Ecological Transition

We collaborated with Loccioni, an industrial reality of excellence committed to the development of solutions for sustainability, by embellishing their Real Laboratory of Ecological Transition with the hydrogen mobility component.

What is the LEAF Community of Loccioni

Loccioni is a family-run business, based in the hinterland of the Marche region, specializing in the design and production of customized measurement and control systems.

Loccioni’s mission is to measure to improve, transforming data into value for the wellbeing of people and the planet. Loccioni’s path of ecological transition started decades ago and took shape in 2008 with the LEAF Community project, the open-air laboratory for sustainability.

Thanks to its visionary approach ahead of its time, today the LEAF Community has achieved very important goals:

  • 19 Photovoltaic Plants installed for a total of 3,134 kW
  • 4 Hydroelectric Plants for a total of 174kW
  • 1 Cogeneration Plant for 50kW
  • 4,558 MWh of renewable energy produced in 2024
  • 3,475 MWh of energy consumed in 2024
  • 4 Electrical Storage totalling 1. 750 kWh
  • 1 Thermal storage of 450m3
  • 1 Hydrogen production system 100kW
  • 83% Of self-consumed renewable energy produced
  • 20 Electric cars in the fleet and potential grid storage
  • 1 Hydrogen cars
  • 36 Charging stations 22 kW AC connected to the micro-grid
  • 2 FAST charging stations 150 kW DC connected to the micro-grid
  • 1 Two-way electric charging station (Vehicle 2 Grid)
  • 1,162 Tons of CO2 avoided/year
  • 53% Self-sufficiency from renewable sources

Simplifhy’s contribution to the new Hydrogen Nomadic Labs

The Leaf Community’s latest innovation is the Hydrogen Nomadic Labs, an ecosystem of test rooms where hydrogen is produced, used and stored.
We at Simplifhy have made our contribution by setting up an experimental pilot plant dedicated to hydrogen mobility.

The infrastructure, operational since the end of June, is designed to test protocols and application solutions related to the use of hydrogen as an energy carrier.

Our contribution to the realization of the new Hydrogen Nomadic Labs was on several fronts:

  • supply of the hydrogen filling station
  • study of the reference standards and constraints
  • choice of the plant’s main components
  • optimization of sizing to meet the required standards
  • study of the constraints and distances for positioning the components.

This was a comprehensive intervention, reflecting our integrated approach to projects.

Specifically, Loccioni purchased a hydrogen machine that needed a refueling system, and our Compressorless solution was chosen for this purpose.

Let’s see in more detail what this is all about.

Compressorless, the hydrogen filling station

Our Compressorless solution, in use at the Loccioni campus, features a dispenser designed for simplified hydrogen refuelling systems. Specifically, it is an H35 dispenser, suitable for connections to vehicles at both 350 and 700 bar.

In compliance with the requirements of DM 23/10/2018 on refueling systems for private use, the dispenser is able to communicate with the vehicle, monitoring the progress of the process in real time and stopping the system in the event of problems.

In addition, the dispenser reads the pressure difference between the vehicle and the depot used in real time, indicating to the customer when it is necessary to switch to the next unit, working in “cascade” mode.

To reduce costs and avoid additional energy consumption, the dispenser refuels uncooled, using the Wenger B map protocol for refueling vehicles at 350 bar without the use of chillers.

This innovative system will also allow the testing of alternative protocols, making it a true research laboratory for this sector.
