Simplifhy has developed Compressorless HRS, an innovative system in the field of hydrogen refuelling. It is an advanced and flexible solution that eliminates the use of a compressor for refuelling hydrogen vehicles, with numerous technical and environmental advantages.
What is Simplifhy’s Compressorless HRS?
The Simplifhy Compressorless HRS is a mobile hydrogen dispenser that does not require a compressor and enables fast and safe hydrogen supply in various contexts.
Basically, the gas is brought to the site of use via 500 bar storage tanks together with the delivery system. Once at the destination, the two systems are connected via a hose and the system is immediately ready to dispense hydrogen.
Thanks to its essential and plug-and-play design, installation takes less than four hours and can even take place in limited or remote spaces. This feature makes it particularly suitable for refuelling buses, trucks, boats or special vehicles in locations where a conventional refuelling station would be difficult to implement.
Furthermore, once the refuelling process is over, the system can be easily disassembled and removed, leaving the site untouched.
The advantages of the Simplifhy Compressorless HRS
Simplifhy’s HRS compressorless system technology offers a number of important advantages:
Reduced installation time
The system can be installed in less than four hours, thanks to the plug-and-play design that does not require a fixed infrastructure.
Space reduction
Compressorless HRS occupies very little space as it consists of only two main components, namely the storage and dispensing system. This makes it an ideal solution for installation in small or remote locations.
Low costs
Compared to conventional stations, operating and installation costs are drastically reduced. In addition, the elimination of the compressor and chillers reduces energy consumption.
Simplified authorisations
The use of the Compressorless HRS requires extremely simplified authorisations compared to a fixed installation. In fact, Italian regulations for hydrogen refuelling stipulate strict requirements in terms of safety, defined distances between system components, construction of retaining walls and much more. This makes short-term experimentation impractical as it would require excessive cost, time and space. Instead, the use of the HRS Compressorless avoids many of the complications associated with such approvals.
Flexibility of use
The system can be used in various contexts, from space-constrained urban areas to remote locations, offering a scalable solution that can be adapted to the customer’s needs.
Reduced environmental impact and sustainability of HRS Compressorless
Sustainability is one of the main benefits offered by the HRS Compressorless. Indeed, thanks to the use of green hydrogen, produced from renewable sources, this system contributes significantly to the reduction of CO2 emissions and the decarbonisation of transport.

Sustainable hydrogen mobility: the European goal for the decarbonisation of transport
The Compressorless HRS makes it possible to extend the use of hydrogen in contexts where, until now, conventional refuelling stations could not be implemented. This opens up new opportunities to decarbonise vehicles that require high mileage and short refuelling times.
Furthermore, the elimination of the compressor and coolers further reduces the consumption of electricity and materials, helping to minimise the overall environmental impact of the system. This approach is in line with Goals 9 and 13 of the UN 2030 Agenda. Indeed, the first promotes innovation and sustainable industrialisation through the creation of a resilient infrastructure. The second goal calls for urgent measures to counter climate change and its negative consequences.
