We have installed an Alpha Neo hydrogen e-bike in the facility built for ITSGREEN Academy in Vimercate, the first educational laboratory in Italy dedicated to hydrogen.
The aim is to show that the hydrogen produced is not only used to produce energy but also as a fuel for a means of transport, in this case an electrically assisted pedal bicycle.

The characteristics of the Alpha Neo hydrogen e-bike
The Alpha Neo is the hydrogen e-bike model made by the French company Pragma Mobility, capable of covering long distances and rechargeable in just a few minutes.
It is a hydrogen-powered pedal-assisted electric bicycle. Specifically, the energy that drives the motor does not come from a battery but is supplied by a fuel cell and a hydrogen tank.
This innovative vehicle offers very interesting features:
- 150 km autonomy, without lithium
- Refuelling time of 2/3 minutes
- Tank containing 3 litres of hydrogen at 300 bar
- Weight of 30 kg
Technology using an electrochemical reaction based on hydrogen
The Alpha Neo e-bike technology uses an electrochemical reaction based on hydrogen to obtain energy. In fact, the gas stored in high-pressure cylinders is slowly released into a fuel cell. Here, a reaction takes place with oxygen that generates electricity and water vapour as by-products. The electricity goes into the battery and subsequently powers the electric motor. It is important to know that the water vapour released is a non-polluting emission, which causes no harmful effects in the environment.
The cutting-edge technology of the Alpha Neo e-bike allows ITSGREEN Academy students to get in touch with an innovative and sustainable means of transport, as well as being safer to ride than a car. This is the main reason why we chose to integrate this type of vehicle into the hydrogen production facility of their laboratory.
